Carmen was raised in Lansing and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. Carmen has been working in the Lansing area for several years in a variety of environments such as residential and partial hospitalization programs.
Carmen has experience facilitating and supporting individual, group, and family therapy. Carmen’s experience in partial hospitalization programs involved working with clients with a wide range of issues including anxiety, severe depression, grief, stress management and trauma.
Carmen has had great success with clients dealing with self-harm urges and suicidal thoughts. She has seen the power of developing a warm, empathetic relationship with clients to help make therapy comfortable and effective.
While working with children, adolescents and adults she has seen the power of creating a safe environment and allowing people the freedom to express themselves. Carmen sometimes facilitates that expression with the use of artistic activities that help her clients explore themselves and the different solutions in their lives.
She has experience in working with people of many different cultural backgrounds and recognizes the importance of addressing culture in the solutions she helps clients build.
